Some of us head for home while others move on to Rome, the city of Paul’s last incarceration and eventual death.

Read Acts 28:11-30. Primary teachings from Romans (his longest letter) can be found in 1:16-17, 3:10b-18, 3:21-26, 5:1-2, 6:3-4, 7:21-25, 8:1-2, 9-11, 8:31-39, 12:1-2, 14:17-19.  Reading these excerpts will give you a good footing on the definitive teachings about Justification by faith.

Because the church in Rome was struggling with the doctrine of Justification, he wrote his Epistle to the Romans while living in Corinth.  Our tour in Rome will include sites related to St. Paul and St. Peter as well as the steps Luther climbed up on his knees at St. John Lateran.  We end the day at the Forum as we try to picture what it looked like when Paul walked its streets and allies as he awaited his audience with Ceasar (most likely, Nero).

We pray:

Heavenly Father, the fledgling church clung to the teachings of your servants, especially the Apostles, and sought to keep their teachings and remember their deeds for years to come. As we visit the churches which commemorate their life and work for your Son Jesus, let us always continue to seek the faith of the Apostles as well; friends of Jesus who followed him to the ends of the earth to make disciples, baptize and teach the world about you.  Amen.
